More support needed

This is a bit of a play on words as this month’s update will focus on the support needed for the new exhibits, both physical and financial.

Unlike the previous exhibits, which were mostly located in a vast open room, our new design will be following a flow throughout the building and new walls have to be built to partition some sections of the exhibits. This is actually pretty exciting as it will allow us to tell a story and take visitors through a journey of discovery. It’s also encouraging to see some walls being constructed as opposed to being dismantled.

Some of the structures housing the new exhibits will create a more intimate interaction with them. For example, the large display called What are Wetlands, previously located in the centre of the Morrison Wetland Hall, will now be located in a nook where the emphasis will be on the smaller elements of that display which were often overlooked in the large central display.

In other parts of the building, like in the Feature Hall above, the infrastructures such as the wiring and the plumbing are still being worked on. Notice that the windows have nearly been completed for the Wetland Discovery side.

The tall windows on the DUC office side have also been completed as they had to be done before the ice melted on the Marsh, which is the main access to that area.

Meanwhile, the future Conference Centre side of the building is standing by for approvals. This room has great potential with a beautiful view of the marsh. It will be a great addition to the Wetland Discovery Centre and allow us to host gatherings such as weddings, conferences, etc.

Now as the title of this post implied, all this exciting work requires immense support from the community and you can be part of this project by contributing financially to the redevelopment of the Oak Hammock Marsh Complex. The Public Phase of our Fundraising Campaign has now begun as of Earth Day and we are seeking assistance from you, our supporters, to give us a hand with this project.
