Make the wetlands your classroom with year-round education programs at the Wetland Discovery Centre, located in Oak Hammock Marsh.
Designed for students from Preschool through Grade 12, our hands-on, experiential learning programs bring science, sustainability, and ecosystems to life. Every package is designed to meet Manitoba curriculum standards and is led by our friendly, knowledgeable interpreters — making it easy for teachers to deliver engaging, age-appropriate environmental education.
Please note: maximum group size is 30 (min 15).
1 adult is complimentary per 10 students (not counting support workers). For additional adults, the general admission fee of $14 plus tax is applicable
Cancellation Fee: If notification of cancellation of the group/class is received less than 14 days before your booking date 50% of the total charge will be due. If your group/class is a “No Show”, 100% of the total charge will be due.
Changes in Numbers: Two weeks’ notice is required for a change in numbers greater than 15%. Changes of less than 15% can be made up to 3 business days prior to your event.

SOCIAL STUDIES PACKAGE
Looking for an interactive day that connects with the social studies curriculum? The Wetland Discovery Centre at Oak Hammock Marsh as a program package perfect for you!
Package Includes:
Plant & People Walk. Discover some of the fascinating uses of marsh and prairie plants and their special significance to Indigenous Peoples (Grade 3 – 12). Available from May – October.
Choose additional programs from:
• Animal Teachers. Through a sharing circle and interactive activities, discover how animals can be great teachers! Learn the importance of various wetland animals to Indigenous cultures. (Grade K – 6)
• Explore Watersheds. Through activities and games, students learn the importance of wetlands and watersheds. (Grade 3 – 12)
• Indigenous Games. Engage in fun, interactive, and challenging games that teach important skills and lessons. These games were and still are playing by Indigenous groups in the area. (Grade 3 – 12)
• Geocaching*. Learn the basics of how GPS works. Geocaching is a run way to practice using a GPS, which is an important tool used by wildlife researchers in the field. (Grade 7 – 12)
• Bannock Bake*. Learn the history behind Bannock and how to make it yourself! Prepare your own Bannock and cook it over the fire. (Grade 3 – 12)

Le forfait inclut :
Randonnée – les plantes indigènes. Découvrez les bienfaits des plantes des marais du Manitoba, utilisées par les peuples autochtones depuis toujours (3ème à 12ème année). Disponible de mai à octobre.
Choisissez une ou plusieurs présentations ci-dessous :
• Les animaux nous enseignent. Découvrez comment les animaux peuvent nous enseigner. Vous apprendrez l’importance de divers animaux des terres humides pour les cultures autochtones (M à 6ème année).
• Explorons les bassins versants. À l’aide d’activités et de jeux, les élèves apprendront l’importance des terres humides, des bassins versants et comment les préserver (3ème à 12ème année).
• Jeux autochtones. Ces jeux sont encore aujourd’hui une façon amusante d’apprendre et de développer des habilités importantes et se connecter aux cultures des peuples autochtones du Canada (3ème à 12ème année).
• Géocaching *. Le géocaching est un moyen amusant de s’entraîner à l’utilisation d’une unité GPS, un outil important utilisé par les scientifiques des terres humides sur le terrain (7ème à 12ème année).
• La galette*. Découvrez l’histoire de la galette et apprenez à la préparer vous-même! Préparez votre propre galette et faites-la cuire au feu de bois (3ème à 12ème année).
