Invertebrate Sampling (May-October)
Grab a bucket and a dip net, or even a dredge, to sample the waters and discover the diversity of life in the marsh. Strap on some chest waders to get an even closer look (water levels permitting).
Note: During winter months when Invertebrate Sampling is unavailable, it will be replaced with Indigenous Games.
Themed Walk
Journey through the marsh and learn how all of the plants, animals, and water work together.
Birding 101
Learn about the fascinating diversity of birds found at Oak Hammock Marsh with this introduction to bird identification.
Owl Pellet Dissection *
Journey through an owl’s special hunting adaptations, and dissect an owl pellet! *Note: there is an additional cost of $4, per student, for this program.
Indigenous Games
Engage in fun, interactive, and challenging games that teach important skills and lessons. These games were, and still are, played by Indigenous groups in the area.
Super Soils
Learn about the properties of soil and the animals that call it home, by moving through interactive stations.
Ecology Games
Learn about animal behaviours and interactions by playing high-energy, interactive games. Can be played outside, weather permitting.
Geocaching *
Learn the basics of using a GPS and have fun using using one for geocaching. This is an important tool used by wildlife researchers in the field! *Note: there is an additional cost of $2, per student, for this program.
Explore Watersheds
Through a demonstration model, interactive activities and games, learn the importance of wetlands and watersheds.
Plant & People Walk (May to October)
Discover some of the fascinating uses of marsh and prairie plants and their special significance to Indigenous Peoples.
Bannock Bake*
Learn the history behind Bannock and how to make it yourself! Prepare your own Bannock and cook it over the fire. *Note: there is an additional cost of $2, per student, for this program.
