BYOC! Bring Your Own Canoe

Date:
Time: to

Let our canoe specialist, Dusty Molinski, guide you through some lesser explored regions of the Marsh.

Bring Your Own Canoe (or kayak and SUP) and join an interpreter as we venture into the marsh for a two-hour morning paddle!

*Please make sure to comply with the Manitoba government’s AIS Regulations.

If your watercraft was in one of the 6 control zones in Manitoba, it will require decontamination, in addition to general cleaning provisions (clean, drain, dry), to ensure AIS are killed and removed before your watercraft and water-related equipment are placed into a different body of water.

The control zones include the Lake Winnipeg watershed (including the Red river, the Seine river, the Assiniboine river as well as their tributaries) the Whiteshell, the Winnipeg river and a few more listed here.

We strongly recommend you stop by a decontamination station before putting your watercraft in the Marsh. The closest decontamination stations are in Headingley and Selkirk. You can find more information about the AIS Regulations and the hours of operation of the decontamination stations here.

Launch will take place close to the Interpretive Centre and you will make your way to Cell 3.

Along with your boat, you’ll need to bring your own life jacket, paddles, and Transport Canada safety equipment (bailer bucket, whistle, throw line).
Expect some short carries over the dikes and be prepared for possible wet feet. Some experience is recommended.

Fee is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

Meet your guide at 7:45 a.m. in the main parking lot of the Discovery Centre.
