Exhibits at Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre
What to see at the Interpretive Centre
The Interpretive Centre’s mission is to foster public awareness and knowledge of the inherent values of wetlands and associated ecosystems, and to encourage public support for their conservation through innovative education and outreach programs. Interactive exhibits at the Interpretive Centre reflect this mission.
Feature Hall
Visit the Interpretive Centre’s Feature Exhibit Hall often, as the exhibits in this hall change frequently throughout the year to explore a variety of topics related to wetlands.
Nature Nook
Enjoy the marsh from the comfort of the Interpretive Centre! Windows in the Nature Nook provide a view of the marsh and nesting islands made from a former dike. Birdwatching equipment and the remote camera can be used to get close-up views of wildlife over a kilometre away.
This hands-on exhibit provides views not readily available along busier boardwalks and dikes. This is particularly important for people who will not or cannot venture far from the building (i.e., people with disabilities or seniors), and for periods of inclement weather (rain, high wind, cold temperatures).
Morrison Wetland Hall
Our largest exhibit hall explores all things wetland! Interactive exhibits will help you learn more about why wetlands are important, see what wildlife makes wetlands their home, and explore topics like migration, climate change, science and research. Visit during critter feeding to see our salamanders, snake, turtle or other species in action. Test your knowledge of the environment while competing against people from around the world at the new TryScience Kiosk.
Observation Deck
Head to the rooftop for spectacular views of the 36km2 Oak Hammock Marsh Wildlife Management Area. Viewing scopes are available. Visit at sunset in the fall to witness the magic of migration, when as many as 400,000 waterfowl converge on the marsh.
