Aboriginal Programming
The cultures of the First Peoples of Canada have greatly influenced and shaped our country. Throughout history, Aboriginal people have maintained a special relationship with the land, the water, the air, as well as all animal and plant life. Their contribution to Canada has been one that is rich and diverse.
Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre endeavors to honor this history and the cultures of Aboriginal people by incorporating philosophies, teachings, and values of North American Aboriginal People (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) into the daily activities of the Interpretive Centre. To celebrate the culture and teachings of Aboriginal people, the Interpretive Centre works hard to:
- ensure education programs meet the expectations of Manitoba schools and educators with respect to Aboriginal content in the curriculum;
- collaborate with Aboriginal communities and people to develop special events, workshops and exhibits;
- develop Aboriginal school-based programs based on the central themes of respect for and relationship with nature.
By celebrating and sharing the culture and teachings of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada, we have an opportunity to promote respect for all living things. It is also an opportunity to discover the accomplishments and history of Aboriginal people, and thereby cultivate a sense of pride in both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
